Literally a ton.
I'm here to suggest a few that I think are useful.
The first thing I want to review is iChat, because it comes with all macs. It's an OK program, but you can use it if you have a .mac or mobileme or AIM account, which are pay services. You can use it for free with google talk and jabber, So iChat is kind of useless unless you use google talk or you work for Apple (employee .mac account). If you're like most people, you use MSN or Facebook or even Twitter to chat with you're friends, family, etc. so iChat would be unuseable for you, (unless you use this hack). By the way, google video chat doesn't work on some systems.
The "best" client is Adium, because it is so customizable, AND it supports nearly all IM services. It supports videos chat with the mebeamintergration. I use this one.
The runner-up is Yahoo Messenger, which is actually a pretty good client. You can use your yahoo account, but you can also use your Hotmail account. There are tons of plugins to "optimize" you chatting.
I haven't heard of other ones. Please give comments.
