I know. my titles are REALLY cheesy, but who cares?
Dictunifier is a program that renders the built-in Dictionary.app much more useful.
This convenient program will let you use the dictionary app not only for definitions, but also for translations in any language.
The Newest Dictunifier is version 1.1 (or at least I think it is). The Way I got it was through Softpedia (
HERE). I have no idea who actually made the program but I know that it works OK.
Here's a guide on how to use the program.
1. install the program in the usual way. Open the DMG and copy Dictunifier app to the applications folder.
2. Go to
this website. That website will let you download different dictionaries for various uses. (originally made for the Stardict program, but you don't need Stardict).
3. Download your desired Dictionaries in the Tarball format.
4. If you are using Safari, the file downloaded will look something like aaa.tar.bz2.tar. You don't want that. You have to rename the file and entirely remove the last .tar so the file should look like this aaa.tar.bz2.
For other browsers, I don't know. (I use Safari (it's twice as fast as Firefox)).
5. Then, open Dictunifier.
6. Load the Downloaded file into Dictunifier and type in the Dictionary Name. (Put the same thing in the Dictionary ID). Then, start the conversion!
7. When the conversion has finished, Dictionary should open, but the dictionary might not appear (yet). If not, just quit and reopen the app.
8. EXTRA: If you want to rename the Dictionary, do it from within the Dictionary.app, in the Preferences. Find your dictionary and right-click (ctrl + click) the label and/or the dictionary name.
